Prevalence and potential risk factor of deep vein thrombosis in Chinese patients undergoing knee arthroscopy surgery without thromboprophylaxis in routine clinical practice: A retrospective study
نویسندگان
چکیده
Objective: To assess the prevalence of Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) in Chinese patients undergoing knee arthroscopy surgery without thromboprophylaxis in routine clinical practice, and to identify the associated risk factors. Materials and methods: Medical records of 864 successive Chinese patients (≥ 18 year) who underwent different arthroscopic knee replacement surgery without thromboprophylaxis at Zhoushan Hospital, China between January 2012 to December 2014 were reviewed. Venogram of each patient was reviewed. To identify possible risk factor, age, operative time of surgical intervention, time spent in tourniquet, body mass index, gender, surgeon and type of surgical procedure was also reviewed. Univariate analysis was performed to assess the relationship between potential risk factor and DVT. Result: Of total patients, 564 (65.27%) patients had DVT as confirmed using venography. Among patients with DVT, 23% of patients had proximal DVT, whereas 42 % of patients had distal DVT. Of 65% of cases of DVT, 25% of patients experienced signs and symptoms of deep vein thrombosis, whereas no signs of deep vein thrombosis were observed in 45% of patients. Increasing age and complex surgical procedures of arthroscopy surgery are strongly linked DVT (p<0.01). Incidence of DVT was significantly higher among patients who underwent complex procedure of arthroscopy surgery compared to simple surgical procedure (p<0.01). Conclusion: Our study results suggested that high prevalence of DVT was found among Chinese patients undergoing knee arthroscopy surgery without thromboprophylaxis in routine clinical practice. We recommended close monitoring of patients undergoing advanced knee arthroscopy surgery for occurrence of DVT to prevent post-operative complications.

Incidence of venographically proved deep vein thrombosis after knee arthroscopy.
BACKGROUND Deep vein thrombosis is a common, important complication of major orthopedic surgery, particularly knee arthroplasty. Knee arthroscopy is performed more frequently and in younger patients than knee arthroplasty. However, the true risk of deep vein thrombosis in patients who undergo this procedure is unknown. OBJECTIVE To determine the incidence of deep vein thrombosis after knee ar...

Backgrounds: There are controversies among surgeons about prophylaxis of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in laparoscopic cholecystectomy. The aim of this study was the assessment of patients’ condition after laparoscopic cholecystectomy without any prophylactic measure. Methods: 100 cases of laparoscopic cholecystectomy without DVT prophylaxis were followed by duplex scanning in the first postopera...

BACKGROUND VTE is a serious, but decreasing complication following major orthopedic surgery. This guideline focuses on optimal prophylaxis to reduce postoperative pulmonary embolism and DVT. METHODS The methods of this guideline follow those described in Methodology for the Development of Antithrombotic Therapy and Prevention of Thrombosis Guidelines: Antithrombotic Therapy and Prevention of ...
متن کاملDeep vein thrombosis after elective knee surgery. An incidence study in 312 patients.
The incidence of venous thromboembolism after elective knee surgery has previously been studied almost exclusively in patients receiving total knee replacements, in whom the risk of a deep vein thrombosis is approximately 60%. We report the results of ipsilateral ascending venography in 312 patients undergoing a wide variety of elective knee operations under tourniquet ischaemia, none of whom r...

PURPOSE To investigate the risk factors leading to blood transfusion among Chinese patients undergoing total knee replacement. METHODS From July 2001 to June 2002, a total of 128 primary total knee replacements were performed in 83 Chinese patients (38 unilateral and 45 one-stage sequential bilateral). No pharmaceutical prophylaxis against deep vein thrombosis was used. The risk factors leadi...
